AGM - Save the date!
The AGM will be held at 8pm on Thursday 15 September 2022 at St Georges Hall, 27 Albemarle Road, Beckenham BR3 5HZ
It was with great sorrow that we learned of the death in February of our Patron for eight years, Kathleen Hankinson, at the age of 93.
She was a good friend to d/Deaf and Deafblind people and we were privileged to welcome her on to the Bromley Chain committee in 1988. Her unfailing enthusiasm and her wide, lifelong experience of the Deaf community was greatly valued. In fundraising, in campaigning and in supporting she was a force to be reckoned with and she also became a much loved and trusted professional BSL interpreter, giving generously of her time and energy in that role.
Becoming a popular Chairperson in 1997, representing Bromley Chain on various relevant organisations in the LBB, when her 3 year term of duty ended she became Secretary and showed her support for the two young, second generation, deaf Chairs who would, in turn, go on to follow her. Encouraging such youngsters was as important to her as were the needs of elderly deaf people, a number of whom were seriously suffering from the sudden lack of specialist social workers. Her genuine care and support was so appreciated.
Retirement for Kathleen was not an easy option; her new roles and her commitment to d/Deaf people enriched many lives and would likely have lasted well into her nineties had Parkinsons, which she bore with such good grace, not intervened.
We were blessed by her presence. May she rest in peace.
It was with great sorrow that we learned of the sudden death of our Vice-chair, Roger Vincent-Townend (whose photograph appears on our Home Page) just before Christmas.
A loyal committee member for over 40 years, we shall miss not only his knowledge of administrative procedures but also his enthusiasm and skill with practical issues, and his unfailing support for us and all that our local charity stands for.
Jenny Froude on behalf of Bromley Chain Committee.
