After Roger Vincent-Townend, I am the second longest-serving member on the Committee! Bromley Chain started in the year of Tom's birth and I became involved about two years later. Communication has always been important to me - I was an Assistant Editor on Woman's Weekly magazine before our three sons were born so I enjoy writing, photography and editing Chainmail and doing local PR and being Minutes secretary. As well as helping produce Bromley's Marathon sign dictionaries, I worked as an SSA in the Senior HIU at Darrick Wood School & give talks on bringing up a deaf child. I have passes in Paget Gorman Sign System, Signed English and CACDP stage 1 and studied to CACDP Stage 2. I undertake note-taking assignments. May 2003 saw the launch of my biography of Tom "Making Sense in Sign - a Lifeline for a Deaf Child" (Multilingual Matters) which has had good reviews in professional journals, RNID & NDCS magazines, and family magazines. And it is a delight to me to see my hearing baby grandson use signs to great effect, all thanks to his Uncle Tom! See the book available to buy online
